To Change Some Things in Your Life, You Need To…?

…Change some things in your life…

Simple words, but not always simple to implement…

The thing I love about what I do is the variety of people I get to work with and I am very privileged that I get to look into their lives and sometimes very personal and very private elements. I mean how many people do you meet for the first time and they hand over their bank statements and financial records to you, it happens all the time to me!

In my day to day work I get asked all sorts of advice on how to run a business, mainly business owners who are determined to win, they want to hit that million pound mark, questions from marketing, profit margins, systems and even complete changes in direction, these are all decisions that either are changing or need some action to make change…

The market place does not care, the business world doesn’t give a crap about feelings, emotions or people, the economy marches on day after day doing what it does and it is up to us to embrace the opportunities, read, learn and do what we can to make the business work…

But above all, make sure you enjoy the journey, don’t forget to be happy… I started my business career in 1991, and have been happy, I have been unhappy, I have experienced divorce, messed up, lost money and made money, but the one thing that has been constant is change. Business never stands still and if you are not achieving everything you set out to achieve, then for you to change some things in your life, you need to change some things in your life…

Even in my own business I am constantly looking for change, and over the many years I have made lots of small behind the scenes changes to constantly improve efficiency, and even some great big changes that results in sacking staff with poor attitudes, or ceasing to work with other staff that simply don’t share the same vision as you,… heck!!!… I even sack clients who moan and complain and are too lazy to make the effort…

Sometimes, when faced with change we allow our emotions to get the better of us and we try to calculate the risk and the more we think about the change and implications, the more we worry and fret, and just when you step out and start the journey of change, it seems everyone and everything is against you..

So why make change?

To be happy and to make money, that’s pretty much the only reasons for being in business and if you find you are not happy and not making enough money, then you must seek to make change…

The best way I know how to make change is to first share what you are trying to achieve with someone who is not emotionally attached to what you are doing, someone who can give you an honest objective view.

Then, plan for change, document and record what needs doing, why and by when.

The process of actually documenting it is often more important than the finished document, because when you write something down, a level of clarity is needed for the written sentence to mean something.
